Try This to Calm Down

Being a parent can be frustrating and stressful.  However, we don’t intentionally want to show that side to our spouse or kids.  Here are some recommended tips for helping you calm down:

  1. Deep Breathing: Take slow, deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. This can help you slow down your heart rate and reduce feelings of anxiety.
  2. Meditation: Spend a few minutes in quiet meditation, focusing on your breath and letting go of any thoughts or worries.
  3. Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Tense and then relax each muscle group in your body, starting from your toes and working your way up to your head.
  4. Exercise: Engage in physical activity, such as jogging or yoga, to release endorphins and reduce stress.
  5. Listen to Music: Listen to calming music, such as classical or nature sounds, to help you relax.
  6. Take a Break: Step away from the situation that is causing you stress and take a break. Go for a walk or do something enjoyable to take your mind off your worries.
  7. Practice Mindfulness: Focus on the present moment and try to let go of any worries about the past or future.
  8. Visualization: Imagine a peaceful scene, such as a beach or forest, and visualize yourself there.
  9. Talk to Someone: Talk to a friend, family member, or therapist about what is causing you stress.
  10. Use Aromatherapy: Use calming scents, such as lavender or chamomile, to help you relax.

Don’t forget that your children are smarter than you think, and remember the darndest things.  Being mature and keeping your cool will help make the entire family happier and healthier.
